New Credit File

I have read that you can get a new credit file legally, besides the one you have. Is this True?

Re: New Credit File

Not really. There are a number of schemes, some bordering on legal some not legal at all. I suggest you read this from the Federal Trade Commission: http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/conline/pubs/credit/bbcr.htm

This answer, though responsive to the question, is general in nature. It is not designed to be and should not be relied on as your sole source of information when analyzing and resolving a specific legal issue. Each fact situation is different; the laws are constantly changing. If you have specific questions regarding a particular fact situation, I urge you to consult with competent legal counsel.

Re: New Credit File

Simply put, you can have as many credit files as you and the consumer credit bur.s can manage. There is no law against it, or having more than one name, or have more than one SSN. It is, however, fraud--criminal and civil--to use or attempt to use such deceptions to gain credit or gain credit on more favorable terms. Such schemes--the more honest ones--typically involve getting a employee ID number from the IRS, which can be done free of charge. Its use would, however, be subject to the same restrictions mentioned above. I would suggest that you attempt more legitmate ways of cleaning up your credit, there are many options. If your creditors are seeking judgments or collectors are calling, please feel free to email me and we can schedule an appointment, you should in any event contact an attorney. Good luck.
