Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Georgia

I received a summons this morning for a debt I owe to citibank. The total amount on the summons was approx. $7k. I'm not sure what my first step is. I paid off several cards years ago, but I think this is one I forgot about. From what I remember the original amount was 6,200. Not sure what to do here. Please help!

Unless you answer the suit, you will lose after 30 days. Even if you answer, if you owe the money, you likely will lose. If you owe money and can't pay, look into a bankruptcy. Be sure to see a lawyer less than 30 days from now as that is your deadline for several options.

How old is the debt? If you don't want to hire an attorney and it is in small claims court, deny the debt, demand absolute proof, and assert the affirmative defense of statute of limitations. In other words, if it is a truly old debt, Citibank may have waited too long to bring a suit. However, you must assert it in your answer or you lose the defense.

Good luck.
