Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Georgia

I am in the state of Georgia. I just received an Order to appear for a post-judgment deposition for a civil matter. Generally, what happens if I fail to appear and ignore the Order?

In a civil matter, if the attorney noticed your deposition and you don't show up, he would likely file a motion for attorney's fees and costs and move to have the court order you to appear. If the judge orders you to the deposition and you fail to appear, not only may you be assessed attorney fees, costs, and fines, but you may wind up in jail.

To adequately protect yourself in this serious matter, you may want to retain an attorney to advise you further, prepare you for the deposition, and appear with you at the deposition.

Best case scenario: you pay their attorneys fees and costs.

Worst case: you sit in jail and pay fees too.
