The answer depends on if they really have the wrong number or if she actually does owe them money. Since you haven't aid which, I can't answer. Try reposting with that information.

Whether your wife owes the debt or not, you can stop the calls by telling them to stop calling!! If your wife has a speaker phone on her cell, next time they call, record the conversation when she tells them not to call. If they call again, they are in violation of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and you can sue them from the violation.

If you wife owes the money, she may be able to negotiate a lower payment.

Nevertheless, again, debt collectors must stop calling when they are told to do so. Otherwise, they are in violation of the law. The law gives the person the right to sue in court for the violation, regardless of the validity of the debt.

If you wife has further questions about her rights under the Faird Debt Collection Practices Act, she can call me on my Atlanta line (678)793-7745.
