If a previous employer paid an additional salary payroll check after leaving the company do you have to return the check after it was deposited and spent after two weeks? the check was for $4280.00.

Yes, you likely will have to return the money. Unless, you can show that you were not aware of the mistake and that you were not unjustly enriched by it.
