violation of probation
would it be in one's best interest to inform probation officer of new charge pending if probation officer is unaware of new charge?

The probation may or may not independently become aware of the new charge, so it is up to that person to decide whether or not they want to disclose that information. If they don't and the probation officer finds out, there will more than likely be a revocation.
