Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia
My 19 year old step-grandaughter has 2 girls, age 10 months and 26 months. They have lived with her mother, my stepdaughter, and with us for 1-1/2 years. My stepgrandaughter was unhappy with her living arrangements. In a nutshell; she left us, took the girls to their father (who still lives with his mother); and was homeless for a few months. She now has an apartment. The father will not let her even see the girls for a visit. While they were here, he visited a few times, paid a half week of child care and that's about it. I am sure a custody fight is on the horizon.
My question, I love these girls very much, and the father feels that none of us should see them.
What can I do? Do I call the local police when I get there? Does he have to let me see them. or let them spend a few days with us? All their toys and stuff are still here; and it was once their home. I miss them!

A step-grandmother has no legal rights, so no, don't call the police (you mayget arrested) and don't attempt a visit if you have been told not to come (that is a crime called criminal trespass) The mother of the children of course does have rights and she should see a lawyer. Unless the father has legitimized the children, he has no legal rights. You can help the mother by helping her pay for a lawyer; whatever visits youget will be ones she allows assuming she becomes custodian.
