Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia
Adoption rights
I have a 17 year old son that has gotten his 16 year old girlfriend pregnant. Can she put the baby up for adoption if he is wanting to keep it or just how does he keep her from giving it up to strangers and not giving the baby to him. He is willing to take care of the baby and take all rights to it. Of course we are willing to help our son to take are ot the baby.

Re: Adoption rights
As the father, he must be notified if the mother tries to put the child up for adoption. He should do 2 things right away: 1) Contact the State Putative Father Registry and get listed as the posible father of the child (any attorney doing an adoption has to check this registry); and 2) File a petition to legtimate the child to establish paternity and his rights and obligations to the child (if he desires physical or legal custody, he must also file an action for custody after the legitimation is completed). These are important issues and an attorney should be consulted right away.
