Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia

alimony

My husband pays his ex-wife back alimony and current alimony of approx. 1,100 per month; this requires him to work 2 jobs. His kidney function is at 28% and if it remains there, in 1 month the MD will put him on a transplant list. He cannot continue to pay at current rate/work 2 jobs. If there any type of relief in this situation?

He may be able to file a petition for modification of the current amount of alimony and seek a reduction of the amount. As for the apparent arrearage, he may be able to obtain relief in having a longer period in which to pay it through bankruptcy.

He should consult with a family law attorney as soon as possible about the modification and a bankruptcy attorney about relief from the arrearage.

He might be able to seek a modification of child support or even file a Chapter 13 bankruptcy. An attorney would need to review the existing paperwork and financial information on both parties.
