Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia

Amend Birth Record

If both parents listed on the childs birth certificate agree that the father listed is not the paternal father, how can we legally get the father's name changed on the birth record to ''unknown''? Currently there have been custody situations where both parents have been ordered to pay child support at one time or another. A private paternal test has discovered that the father listed is not actually the father. The mother wants to change the name on the certificate and relieve the father of any further child support obligations. Can we change in Vital Records and with the Superior Court without obtaining a lawyer?

Re: Amend Birth Record

You cannot change a birth record from a known name to unknown. With experienced legal help, if you know who the actual parent is, it may be possible to correct the certificate and deal with suppoirt issues. The support issues also might be dealt with separately. This is absolutely not a do it yourself project.
