If the mother and child are in Texas, then you need an attorney who is licensed in Texas. My understanding is that every parent has an obligation to support his or her child, regardless of whether they are on the birth certificate or not. However, paternity first has to be established, usually through blood or DNA testing. If the mother is suing you for support, contest and ask for a blood test. If it proves the child is yours, you are stuck with paying child support. If you do not want to wait for the child support authorities to come calling, bring a paternity action in Texas and request blood testing. You will need a lawyer for a paternity suit.

Simply, repost this questions as a Texas question using the zip code of the mother.

This way you get an answer from a lawyer who is actually licensed in Texas.

In short, I only answer questions in the four states where I am licensed, and the only useful advise you would get in this matter would be from an attorney who is actually licensed and practicing in Texas.
