Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia

child support calculation Georgia

How is child support now calcualted in Georgia.

Example: I have joint legal and physical custody. I have had my child 55 % of the time over the past 3 years.

My current gross income per month is 5,000. My ex wifes is 2500.00 per month.

I pay all extracurricular, education and medical cost.

Is there a formula to calculate ??

I have a feeling I have been paying to much based on the new HB221

There is no absolute based on tables because the court is allowed to consider other factors. If you are interested in having a family law attorney assess you probable obligation based on income and other factors considered, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Re: child support calculation Georgia

Since more numbers than you posted go into the complex calculation, there is no way anyone can answer you here. However, if you go to the State Child Support Unit website, you'll find a calculator there and the forms, and you can do the computations. Bear in mind that the change in laws alone does NOT give grounds to modify past support; you would have to have other reasons set in the law. Bear in mind also that many support cases boomerang, and result in the filer paying more and not less, so it can be a Pandorra's box, as reductions in support are not the norm.
