Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia

correction of typo in marriage certification

We are both foreign citizens. I am in the US for work more or less permanently on a L1 visa and recently married my partner when she was here in the US for vacation. However, due to a typo in my drivers license, which was carried over into the marriage license and later into marriage certification I have now an

invalid document. My wife now can't apply for an L2 to accompany me because the name in my L1 visa doesn't match the name in the marriage license.

The name on the drivers license is fixed now, but the local government center will not change the marriage certificate. They are claiming I would need to hire an attorney because marriage certifications represent court records which can only be changed by an attorney. That would cost me a 4 figure dollar amount . Are there any other less price intense options available or flat fee attorney services existing to get the marriage license name corrected?

Re: correction of typo in marriage certification

It would take an order from a Suprior Court Judge. However, the total legal fees likely would not be in four figures, depending on your county. I'd have to know the county to give a quote.
