Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia
court ordered extra curricular activities paid
The court ordered my husband to pay ''50% of all extra curricular activities'' for his kids. Please give me the legal definition for ''extra curricular activities''. His ex is making him pay for bats, balls, shoes, uniforms, coaches gifts, etc... We were under the impression it meant the fees (registration) to play the sports. Please advise.

The bats, balls, shoes, uniforms, coaches gifts, etc. may be determined to comprise the total cost of participation in the extra curricular activity. Read the Divorce Decree and any of the other final documents in the divorce case to determine whether there were provisions that allowed any portion of the total cost of participating in the extracurricular activity to be excluded. If not, then you will need to consider whether you wish to go to the expense of litigating that issue as opposed to paying the total cost of the extracurricular participation fees.
The exact wording of the documents are important, and your "impression" is usually not relevant at all, but beyond that it should be obvious to a parent that extra-curricular activities often involve expenses such as the ones that you mention. Most parents also understand the importance and benefits of their children being involved in these activities and gladly pay the expenses they can afford. Is this really something you want to fight about? How would it affect the children in any positive way?
