Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia

Divorce - Alimony Increase

My husband's ex called him and told him she called her atty. to have alimony inccreased (now gets $2000 mo. and $500 car payment). She has been getting this for four years and has one year left but says ''she can't make it financially on that now''. Can she have it increased or the time extended or both?

Re: Divorce - Alimony Increase

Alimony can be modified, up or down, based on substantial changes in the income or financial status of the payor or payee. It cannot, however, be extended beyond its original term under Georgia law. If there is one year left, the most she could do is get an increase (if she can convince the court that she meets the statutory requirements) in the monthly amount for the next year, but then the alimony ends.
