Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia
Per my divorce decree I may claim two of my sons on taxes every other year. My ex wife says she is claiming the son that turned 18 because she thinks the decree no longer applies. Does the divorce decree still apply? My son is in college and wants me to claim him for his FAFSA application.

It wouldbe impossible for you to get an answer here. The decree would have to be read, but likely it does not apply to an adult child. If it doesn't, your and her CPA, and not a lawyer (and not non "accountants" like HR Block), have to determine who qualifies under federal law. FAFSA is not a tax form, so I doubt your decree addresses that either. Make two appointments - one with your lawyer and one with a real CPA.
