Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia

divorce(uncontested)

my papers were signed by husband and i back in october of 08. it's taking until april 13th of 2009 to get a court date. but if it's uncontested why do i need to goto court? i can't afford a lawyer because i'm not working and i'm in school full time.

You don't need to go to court if you know how to prepare a Motion for Judgment on the Pleadings.

You cannot afford NOT to have a lawyer in a divorce. Uncontested divorces are very inexpensive, and it may be impossible to fix the errors that you may have in a pro se case after the case is over.

Some counties require court dates and some do not, but if it has taken that long, it is very likely that it is due to something you did wrong. Most uncontested cases are completed in 1-2 months. Get a lawyer to review what you have done and fix any errors.
