What am I entilted to

I would like to know what my rights are as the wife in a marriage that is not working out. I have been married 1 year and I have an 8 year old by a previous marriage that this is effecting. Things have gotten violent and the 8 year is effected by it. I have had to quit my job due to be married and moving so I am unemployed. We do have a house together and some other things. Am I entitled to any of his severence pay that he will get on April 1st for $50k.

You may be entitled to some spousal support, probably on a temporary basis because the maraige was so short. You will be entitled to an equitable distribution of marital property, some of which may be a portion of the severance. However, I would doubt it would be anywhere near half.
