Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia

I am filing for a divorce with one of those do it yourself kits. When I got married, I never changed my last name. Do I put my Name I have been using this whole time on the paper work or do I put my suppose to be married name?

You put the name you have been using in the title of the document. Then, if you want your maiden name back, you ask that is be restored in the body of your divorce petition.

The procedure stated by Mr. Field is correct.

However, you should not use those kits for this matter.

Consider getting a free consultation with a lawyer in his or her office to discuss the matter. It is possible that you can do it yourself. However, if you have children, joint assets, or joint liabilities (rent, credit cards, cars, mortgages, utilities) there are pitfalls and risks you take that may cost you more than you would have paid for an attorney.
