Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia

My husband in which I am totally financially dependent on has left me all of a sudden and wants a divorce and said that he did not have to pay alimony. I need money now to live before the divorce. What action can I take. Rent is due tomorrow.

Obviously nothing will happen tommorow, or even in a few weeks.

So the practical answer is that you need to get with your friends and families and work out a financial plan. You'll need their help. Part of that plan is getting their help to retain a good lawyer, so you can pursue what claims you may have.

Don't you have access to marital assets or a checking account? If so, pay the rent through those means. At this point at least, it is irrelevant if he doesn't want to pay alimony. If you are entitled to support and don't otherwise bargain it away, the judge may grant you support. There are a number of factors the court considers in determining alimony, including the length of the marriage, the education levels of each spouse, and the earning power of each.

In any event, if your family and friends cannot provide immediate support, contact Gwinnett Social Services for ideas on how to handle your living situation. http://www.gwinnettcounty.com/portal/gwinnett/Departments/CommunityServices/HealthandHumanServices
