Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia

In January my wife moved from Georgia to Vermont and took my kids with no warning or notification. We were currently awaiting a divorce and custody agreement to be arranged and finalized by a judge in Georgia, the state we filed and lived in. In October the divorce/custody was finalized and I was granted custody. The court order stated that the children were to be returned to my custody by November 10th. On the morning of November 10th she filed, in Vermont, for a protection order against me for both her and the children and was granted the order and custody of the children. They will not legally let me take custody of my children in Vermont regardless of the divorce and custody decree. I would like to know how I can settle this and obtain custody of my children?

I am assuming that with a case involving two states, which makes it exceptionally complex, that you did not do something foolish and proceed pro se. So that means you have a lawyer here. Your lawyer here is the one you need to see, and presumably he will associate counsel in Vermont (let him help you find counsel there). It is likely that under the facts that you gave Vermont lacks jurisdiction and your two lawyers can address that.

Good luck.
