Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia

Medical bills for child

My ex-wife has waited a year to present me with medical bills for my son. She says I have 30 days to pay this amount. Is there a time frame she has to get me all bills? I feel if I have 30 days to pay the bills she has 30 days to get me the bills after what medical procedure he has done. I’m calling some of the doctors to find out what was done. It looks like some of the things she is trying to just get money out of me. She is asking for a big lump some of money she is wanting in 30 days.

Re: Medical bills for child

The answer will depend on what your agreement and order says. If it does not have a timeframe for her to submit but does have a timeframe in which you have to pay, then she is correct. I suggest you review the language of the order carefully with your divorce attorney or another family law attorney.

A licensed physician is not likely to order unnecessary treament, so the services rendered very likely contributed to the health of your child.

You may want to consider filing a Motion to Modify the decree and get the judge to order her to submit the bills to you within, say, 30 days.
