Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia

Can I move in with my dad? I am fourteen. He used to get angry easily and once kicked the dog but he is nice to me and cares about my education and needs. He has money and my mom does not. My mom is mean annoying rude and once slapped my back. I want to leave my mom and go to my dads. Will the court allow it?

No. The only way you get to move is if he files a custody case (and wins). You can't decide. (If he files, the court can ask you to express your opinion.)

I agree with the prior answer. Sit down and talk it over with your father.

If your father wants custody, he will discuss the matter with your mother.

If they cannot come to an agreement, he will hire a lawyer to file a petition to change custody.

During that proceeding, you may get a chance to testify regarding your preference.

The court will determine which parent obtains custody.
