Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia

I have a question about adoption of step children? I've been married to my husband for over 8 years. I have 2 sons from a previous marriage. My husband has been 100% raising them and taking care of them, my ex-husband is not involved at all. My husband would like to adopt my two sons and give them his name. What is the time frame process for this and what would the costs be for him to do this? Thank you.

The fastest way to do this is to have your ex-husband relinquish his rights and agree to the adoption. The cost will depend on a range of factors, including your ex-husband's position on givng up his rights.

I handle such cases. It is a step parent adoption. The complexity and cost depend on your county and also whether the father will agree. In some cases it can be done without his consent. Feel free to call me if I can assist you.

Your husband files a Petition for Adoption. If the father doesn't file an objection, it should go through fairly smoothly.
