Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia
why do unligitimized fathers have to pay child support when they have no say in the childs life and at times may not get to see the child even if they want to and there is no visitation guidelines set up by the courts? how can a state declare them a "dead beat dad" when they may have lost their jobs and cant afford the child support but the state can torture the father?

Because when you decide to have sex with a woman, you are responsible for teh consequences. If you don't want to pay child support, use birth control or don't have sex. Did you think the taxpayers should pay for you to sleep with women?
And if you are a man and want a say-so in your child's life, then you spend the money and time to legitimate the child.
But, since you seem concerned that support would be a burden to you, do society and yourself a favor and don't have sex.
These are questions asked by many many fathers.
Legitimation is a simply procedure. Therefore, if you want visitation, you legimate and request visitation/child support. Once you establish visitation the mother will be in contempt if she withholds the child during scheduled visitation. Also, you can seek shared legal custody. At that point, you can have a say on matters such as education and religion.
There isn't a guildeline for visitation because each case is different. The judge uses his/her discretion while looking at the best interest of the child.
Regardless of whether the father seeks to legitimize the child, the child still need support. Once the court establishes support, if the father loses his job, it is the father's responsibility to file a petition for modification. All too often, fathers are negligent in not filing petitions to modify child support as soon as they lose their jobs. Therefore, fathers shouldn't blame courts for their failure to file simply forms to decrease their support obligation.
