Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia

Warrant Issued in Georgia for not appearing to court hearing

Upon my arrival to Atlanta airport in Dec 2004 I was served papers to appear in court. Unfortunately, I was not able to attend as I contracted Tetnus while working on a project in Dhaka, Bangladesh and was hospital care.

From sending an email to my exwife for the details I received a PDF file that indicated she was awarded an additional $50k of alimony from me due to me not making the hearing.

I am currently working on a project in Europe at the moment and wondered if I travel to another state other than Georgia will I be arrested? I have a sister that is loosing her battle to cancer and I just wanted visit her one more time before it is too late.

In my attempts to reason with my ex-wife via email it became apparent she does not care so I will have to fight it with a lawyer. Anyway, before I complete that process if I return to the USA will I be arrested in any state or just Georgia.

Best regards

Whether you get arrested depends whether or not the matter has found its way to the GCIC or NCIC [Ga. and National Crime Information Center]. If it hasn't no one will be looking for you and a car stop should not result in an arrest. Contact us if you wish to discuss retainging Georgia counsel.

You are potentially facing serious charges, including the possiblity of arrest. You should ASAP consult with a local attorney. If you are in the North Atlanta metro area, please feel free to give me a call.
