Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Georgia
Bad Money Decisions
Hello,
I hope that you could help me. I loaned my ex-boyfriend some money--name removed--well--name removed--put some things of his on 3 seperate credit cards for him. Around that time he had to move to Georgia (job transfer) and then fell on some hard time. It has been almost 2 years and since then we have broken up, only a few payments have been made on his end. I have been trying to maintain the payments so that my credit will not get runined, but it has been very very hard because I--name removed--unable to manage it. He has told me over and over that when he is able he will take care of the bills. I have statements, receipts etc, but nothing in writing that states that he owes me this amt. The bills in total is about (est.) $30,000.00. I know that this sounds really dumb for someone to do, but part of the reason why I did was because or families were very close and we were going to try and start a life together in Georgia. That just about sums things up, and I hope that someone will be able to help me. I realize that I made a really really bad decision in helping out my ex, but I don't what else to do now. We have talked about things, but nothing has changed. I just don't know what to do. Thank you.

Re: Bad Money Decisions
You have proof that you have been paying for these things and there is no reason for you to make them gifts; so you have the right to reclaim possession of the things, but you will need an attorney to do this where the things are located. You can also embarass him by asking his family to pay you.
Re: Bad Money Decisions
Since your non-legal attempts (i.e., begging) to get him to pay have failed, the only thing you can do is to sue him. Assuming he lives in GA, you would sue in the county of his residence. If I can be of assistance and/or if you would like to discuss this, please contact me.
Re: Bad Money Decisions
Your post indicates thatyou loaned him money, via credit cards, to buy things for himself. That does not give you are right to go pick up the items purchased and retroactively deem tham as purchases you made for yourself.

Consider having a local attorney initiate legal proceedings against him. My firm practices in the 13-county metro Atlanta Area. Feel free to contact us in the event that we might assist you.
