Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Georgia
I live in Georgia and recently started dating a female who is a paralegal in a law firm. I found out last night that she ran an unauthorized backround check on me. I was stunned. I've been thinking about it and at first it didn't bother me much. I figured that a single woman should know if she is dating a violent felon. But since then it has been preying on my mind. From some of the statements she made I think she looked into my financial background as well. What recourse do I have in this situation?

You are apparently asking for a guess as to what you mean by "background check" since you provide no facts at all. A lot of personal information is available over the internet, from various services, etc. YOU need to check your own credit report for inquiries. Otherwise, I am not sure what recourse you are looking for without telling us exactly what she did, and why it was wrongful (in the legal sense). The bottom line is your issue is more likely a relationship issue and not a legal issue.
None, unless she fraudulently did a criminal background check. Consult with a local attorney to go over all the facts.
You have recourse by reporting her to the law firm. The law firm may have policies regarding conducting background checks. This could have course get her fired.
In addition, check your credit report. If she pulled your credit report, you may have a lawsuit against her and her firm. I have represented clients when their credit reports were pulled without authorization.
I am based in Georgia and practice out of Cobb County.
