Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Georgia
Recovering Registration Funds
My son was registered, verbally, with no signed or written documentation, to play for a select youth baseball team. We made the verbal commitment in September of 2007 and over the next three months contributed $700 of the $1800 required in registration fees. In November of 2007 we decided to leave this team and pursue other interest. No games were ever played and no uniforms were ordered or received. These fees were to fund the upcoming 2008 tournament season that usually begins in March. The team has paid a deposit of $3,000 from the team account for the Cooperstown Dreams Park trip in July 2008. After speaking with the coach and informing him of our decision, he states that by leaving the team we forfiet all funds contributed, eventhough he has already filled the vacancy created when we left the team. There is no documentation for any of our agreements, it's only verbal. Am I entitled to all or a portion of my funds being returned?

Re: Recovering Registration Funds
Consider filing a claim in Small Claims court (Magistrate Court) and let a judge decide.
