Legal Question in Employment Law in Georgia
I've been with my current employer for 15 years. I work as an IT Director and have a team of 6. Two years ago, the company was bought out by a much larger European company. They have roughly 40 subsidiary companies, and mine is one of them. For the most part everything has remained the same since the buyout.
They have decided to restructure the corporation as a whole, and IT happens to be one part.
Corporate has determined a new organizational structure and have told everyone in every IT department across the corporation that there is going to be what is called "shared services". This new org structure doesn't have enough room for all of the current IT staff and there will be several job losses across the board.
They've given us the new org chart and job descriptions and are making each of us compete for up to 3 positions. So I will be competing for jobs along side the people that I hired in the first place. Is this ethical? And do I have recourse if I'm terminated?

You don't mention that you have a contract that provides you are anything other than an "at will" employee or the decisions would be based on any unlawful discrimination (and though likely not relevant to the legal question, no one here know whether you or the other candidates are the more valuable employees). There is no general legal entitlement to a job.
