discrimination at work

I was told I was not qualified for promotion because I was a female, also because of my nationality and religious beliefs? Is that discrimination or what.

If you want more information on what is discrimination go to www.EEOC.gov. The information provided therein will assist you determining if you may have a claim. Also, it will give you information on how to file a charge with the EEOC in Atlanta.

Unfortunately, the laws are very pro-employer.

If true, it is. However, not all discrimination is illegal (in fact, most hiring, firing and advancement decisions are based on some form of discrimination) and not all employers are covered by anti-discrimination laws. You may want to post more facts about your actual situation for better responses, including the source of the comments. Off-handed comments by a spiteful co-worker, with no supporting facts, won't get very far, but the same comments made by a manager will be much more important.
