Legal Question in Employment Law in Georgia
Being fired because of pregnancy
My daughter was fired today. She worked for Sally Beauty supply in CSRA. She had been told by other employees prior to her pregnancy that Sally's found ways to fire or cause you to quit if you became pregnant. In the previous few weeks she hasd been written up for things she said she didn't do and sallys couldn't produce evidence of when she refused to sign papers unless they could show what she did. The last write up was for a check that had void written across it. She says she definitely did not take the check with void on it.I told her not to sign any papers confessing to things she didnt believe she did. When they fired her she asked them for copies of her suppposed shortcomings and wha lah like magic they had dissappeared from the North Augusta store. From what I read on Ga unemployment site she won't be able to get benifits because they fired her. Before her pregnancy she hadn't had any problems and was trusted with keys to store, deposits, etc. My daughter is not nearly as bold a person as I am so she may not be willing to do anything . But as her mother I want to know if there is any legal avenue we could take, and do you think we should seek legal advice. Also she is not in good financial shape so hopw much would it cost?

Re: Being fired because of pregnancy
You don't necessarily need a lawyer to file a charge with the EEOC. The agency will do an initial investigation and will give her the option to participate in mediation.
Go to the government's website and review their section on pregnancy discrimination (sex discrimination).
At least you'll have the information from the EEOC to printout and allow her to read and decide what she wants to do. (www.EEOC.gov.)
