Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Georgia
My husband and I recently move out of a home that we were renting because the owner had sold the house. The owner never did a move out inspection on the home and upon moving in she told us that we could paint the walls and do whatever we wanted to the house. I contacted the owner after we moved out to ask when we would be able to get our security deposit back and she stated that we would not be getting our deposit back because she had to reduse the selling price of the home by $5000 because we painted the walls. She had already closed on the house before we moved out of the home and we gave the keys to the new owners. We have filed a claim with the court for our deposit and she has answered the claim countersuiting us for $5000 for the reduced amount of the sell. What can we do?

You don't even mention a lease, much less the terms, so you are not going to get an answer here (other than the obvious - read your lease). Otherwise, you are in a lawsuit so you can either pay for a lawyer or go it alone and tell the judge your side. Obviously, the landlord has another side. We can't resolve that here.
