Legal Question in Personal Injury in Georgia
I was in a car accident in January of this year in Georgia, but I reside in Massachusetts, and it was determined that it was the other driver's fault. I have been to PT for 7 months and another form of treatment for 3 weeks, I'm not able to work at my job, because I have an back injury and I'm on an lightweight limited profile. I did have representation, but I decided he wasn't best for me, so should I get an representative or just try to settle myself just so I'll know I got the best?

Hello - I am sorry to hear about your collision and resulting problems. What was it about your other attorney that you did not like? Depending on the insurance company and many other factors you may well have to file a civil suit and prosecute the case in Court. That is usually something best left to an Attorney. Of course, you can try to resolve the matter yourself but you must be careful.
As a general rule, people who settle cases without a lawyer are offered far less than people who do have a lawyer in the settlement process, and an insurer may force you into court, where you would be ill-equipped to proceed.
In some cases, when you discharge a lawyer, you will still owe him money/
As a general rule, it is always better to obtain representation while trying to negotiate a settlement or during litigation. You didn't say where in Georgia the accident occurred or where the other driver resides. In any event, to avoid problems with your next attorney, you may want to interview several attorneys and retain the one that best fits your needs. (experience, budget, comfort level, etc.)
I am also licensed in Georgia and practice in the Atlanta Metro Area.
