You stated you filed a lawsuit, but you didn't say you received judgment against the person.

Therefore, you may never receive money if the person successfully defends the lawsuit.

Although cases settle, there is no guarantee that yours will settle or that you will win.

If you have an attorney, the attorney has probably told you this already.

Moreover, if you have a judgment against the person, unfortunately, if the person is judgment proof, you still may not get your money.

So, to make a long answer short, there isn't a hard and fast rule on the timing of when, if ever, you receive money from a lawsuit.
