Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Georgia

My house was totaled by fire on Thanksgiving The insurance company has sent the check for home value to the mortgage company. They have said I need to send a request to pay off the mortgage. Can I have the checks sent to me and rebuild the house or do I have to use it to pay off the loan?
