Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Georgia

I recently purchased a home that has an HOA. Honestly, I am not sure what the HOA does in my neighborhood. Every time I want to make a change I have to go to the committee. Recently I requested to put a seal on my driveway. First the committee didn't like the color I selected. I switched to a cement color. Now the committee wants to know why I want to put a seal. They make it extremely difficult for me to fix up my house. I feel the HOA picks and chooses who to apply rules to. I also think they deny my request because they are worried they will have to make updates to their property. I had chickens and was told I need to get rid of them or I will be summons to court. However, there is a neighbor who has a trailer in her yard. The trailer is not allowed per HOA rules. They are not enforcing the trailer rule because this person is on the committee. Is there a way I can stay in my home and get out of the HOA? I had no clue they were this involved when I purchased my home six months ago. If I can't opt out are there any other options? Thank you!

If you agreed to the covenants and restrictions you are bound by them. Otherwise, run for a seat on the board of directions and deal with it that way.
