Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Georgia

My Mother died without a will

She was in a nursing home in Texas,I live in Atlanta Ga and I am her only child. She had nothing. Recently the nursing home sent me a check for remainder of her ''trust fund'',it's for $ 1354.44.It is made out to ''the estate of my Mother''I took it to my bank to put it in my savings acct and they told me I had to get a ''letter of administration'' from the county in Texas where she died. I called them and they said they only do letters of adminstration if there was a will. What can I do ? The nursing home says they had to make it out that way because of the state audits of their books and can't make it out directly to me.

If she legally was a Georgia resident but was just staying in Texas, you might be able to do a No Administration Necessary in Georgia for about $500. (My office handles those). If she was a Texas resident there also may be options there.
