Legal Question in Business Law in Illinois
Using Celebrities' Images
I want to start a designer purse business. The purses are wood, and I want to clip images of film stars from the 1920s and '30s from magazines, combine them with words and headlines, and decoupage them onto the purses. There will be no mass production of images. Each finished purse/image will be unique. Will I have any copyright problems with this?

Re: Using Celebrities' Images
Celebrities likenesses are protected for 75 years after death (the rest of us only have our likenesses protected for 10 years after death). So the short answer is yes, you might have problems with your plan.
