Legal Question in Business Law in Illinois
Consulting Questions
My husband is a networking consultant. He was going to go independent last Nov, but a firm came to him wanting to start a networking practice area with him. They agreed to take care of sales and marketing and he would do the work. He has been at a client since Nov that he brought in, but only has two weeks left with them. If he had gone independent, he would have made between 40 and 50 K. He's making a fraction of that and has seen no sign of any sales being attempted. They are making money off him and not doing what they were supposed to do. Also, he has worked on their computer system in their offices, something he would normally charge $125 an hour for. They're getting the work for free basically. Is there any legal action we can take?

Re: Consulting Questions
The answer to this would lie in the employment agreement which he signed with them before he went to work. If he didnot sign an employment agreement with the firm then he is considered to be an at will employee. As such there are no guarantees of employment or additional compensation more than he agreed to when he went to work. Bottom line is to read his employment contract and see where your husband's rights are. Consult with a local attorney for further information.
