Legal Question in Business Law in Illinois
Independant contractor obligation to verbal contract
I am an independant contractor who had a verbal contract with a consulting firm to do work with his client. The project ended and the client has approached me to do additional work. Since I had no signed contract of any kind, am I obligated to work through the consulting firm, or am I free and clear to work directly with the client?

Re: Independant contractor obligation to verbal contract
Absent an agreement to the contrary, you are under no legal obligation to work through the consulting firm. It potentially could ruin your relationship with the consulting firm, however this is not a legal issue.
