Legal Question in Business Law in Illinois
Patent
Is it possible to safeguard and idea for a product. The thought being because of the high cost to patent and produce a protype on an unknown is to approach a possible customer but would not want the idea stolen. Can this be done economically?

Re: Patent
There are two things that you can do here. First file a provisional patent application. Second have the party sign a non-disclosure agreement regarding your product. The cost of filing a provisional patent application is less than 200.00 pro se.
Good Luck!
