Legal Question in Business Law in Illinois

using pictures without permission

Is it against law to show pictures of a building without getting owners approval? example. A picture is taken of someone's building so I can use to show people what problems they should avoid in the future. I don't know whose building it is and I don't even tell them who built it, I am just using the building.

Re: using pictures without permission

It is NOT against the law to take a picture of a building. However, if you want to use the photo for a commercial purpose, there are some things to consider. First, make sure your photos are not invading any individual's privacy. If there are no people in the picture, this is a non-issue. Second, do not trespass to obtain the photos. Third, you can avoid any potential problems by not putting the photos in your advertising material. If you use the photos as part of a sales pitch or estimate process, you should not have any problems.
