Legal Question in Construction Law in Illinois
my wife and i hired a contractor to put a new addition on to our house 7 months ago thats also when he got the first payment for the job 7 months later the job has not been started and all we get is the run arounds with this company have they voided there own contract they said the job would be done before august and ground still has not be broken what can i do

Thank you for your question. There are a number of laws that protect homeowners against unscrupulous contractors. One is the Illinois Consumer Fraud Act. This provides that you can sue a contractor for fraudulent activity and be awarded three-times your damages plus costs. You also have some other remedies for simple breach of contract and the like.
