Legal Question in Consumer Law in Illinois

New Car Purchase

I'm trying to get a straight answer. Is there a law in Illinois that gives you a 3 day right to cancel? Everyone I speak to in IL thinks this is so but when looking on the web, I see the answer as NO.

No, there is no "3 Day Rule" in Illinois. This rule only applies to purchases of products made via door-to-door sales.

For a new or used car purchase, or almost any other purchase or contract, the answer is absolutely, postively no. The only exceptions are for door to door sales and refinance of your residence. Even department stores are not required by law to allow you to return items. They have just found that it helps sales if they give people that option.

This is one of the most popular "urban legend" laws, and I have no idea why so many people believe it.
