Legal Question in Consumer Law in Illinois
What can i do about being grossly over-charged by a an Implement dealer?
I took my compact Diesel tractor to the dealer from who
I purchased it for an Oil change and filter. He was to
check for a coolant leak as well. Whe I picked up the
tractor he didn't have the bill and would mail it. befor I
got that bill the tractor wouldn't start on day so i called
him and took it back and left it. He fixed it by replacing
the starter switch, the battery and the cables. Again no
bill, he'd mail it. About a week later I finally got the first
bill...$157 for the oil change! He billed me for 3.5 hr
labor at $30/hr. I decided to wait on the second bill
before proceding. It finally came ..$529, of which $160
was labor. 4 hrs. this time at $40/hr. for what was about
a 1hr. job.
What recourse do i have?

You can contest the bill in writing to him for record keeping purposes. Unfortunately, if he does not agree to settle, he can bring suit against you and then you will have to prove that he added onto the bill and that the work is normally done in the trade in less time than he is claiming.
