Legal Question in Consumer Law in Illinois
Waiter gave too much change
I was at a restaraunt on a weekend getaway with a friend. I paid the meal with a Credit card and then went to wash up. When I came back my friend left to wash up and I signed the cc receipt. In with my CC and the receipts was some cash. I thought my friend had put this in as she had wanted to pay for the meal. When I asked they said No it s on your card and smiel and was ready to leave imediatly. So I assumed she had bought my meal by giving me cash since I had beat her to paying the waiter. After returning home I had a phone call from a police officer in that town (over 100 miles) investigating a THEFT. I tried to return the call and the office has not been on duty. What are my options when I do talk with them?

Tell the truth and return the money immediately - that would be a good start - thereafter, make sure you have an attorney if they do charge you.
