father took credit card in mothers name with her name/his information. Credit card company wants my power of attorney. Will this be used by credit card company to legitimize debt

Maybe. Are you the child? It is not clear from your post. You should ask the credit card company why do they want you to provide a power of attorney. Regardless of the reason the credit card company provide, you should think carefully about doing it. Personally, I would not give the credit card company a power of attorney.
