Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Illinois

My husband passed away in Jan. He left his business AMEX credit card with a large balance.

I closed his checking account to stop the auto pay for this bill. I recd a call from someone trying to

collect this bill. I told them I was not ready to talk about any bills yet. Am I responsible for this bill?

What should I say to the collection people when they call again. He had his AMEX card since

1969 and always paid his bill.

sorry for your lost. were you a co-owner of your husband's business? if not, as his wife you are not responsible. the next time a creditor calls, tell them your husband is deceased. sounds like you need to open an estate and get appointed as the administrator of your husband's estate. if you want to discuss further, i can be reached at 312-372-5600.
