Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Illinois

I think I may have messed up big time here. My wife and I are being sued and were were trying to settle with the debt collector total being sued for is 2000. I made a payment of the phone by check, that has went through. Would it help to negotiate on the other 1000 in court? The other thing I did since we were told we owe other debts is worked out a payment plan by phone through automatic withdraw. I am know afraid that they will take out more that what I agreed to. Should this be brought up to the Judge on the court date?
